This procedure uses radio frequency energy to heat and “burn” nerve to prevent such nerves from transmitting pain, and is often used for back pain. RFA is delivered through a needle into facet joints, Once the needle and electrode placements are verified, ad radio frequency current is sent to each facet joint and nerve for a certain period of time to heat and “burn” the afflicted nerve.
